The Truth Behind Blogging

Blogging isn't all fun and games.
Red carpets and glamour.
Celebrities and popstars.

Whenever I tell people I blog, the majority of them react with the following conversation:

THEM: OMG that is SO cool, how many followers do you have?
ME: Well, I don't really count by followers, but I've just under 50,000 views.
THEM: OMG!!!!!!! That is like amazing. Do you go on red carpets and interview celebrities.
ME: Um, well not quite.

That is a generalisation, however it does annoy me quite a bit how little people know about the Truth Behind Blogging. It isn't just with that click of Create Blog that you get millions of views, interviews with Taylor Swift, invitations to exclusive events. That could take years and years of blogging, I've been doing it for 2 and a bit years and have had just under 50,000 views.
not mine

Sometimes I can sit down and write a post with the quick of my finger, however most of the time it takes a lot more thinking and re-writing to get something post-worthy. Often I can have sat down for half an hour and not get any inspiration because posts that have some level of quality don't just come to you, however skilled at writing you may be (although that may just be me?!)

Anyway can start a blog, pressing a few buttons is pretty easy. Even writing your first few posts is easy. However, the dedication that goes on after that - spreading the word, posting regularly, managing to come up with good posts often, getting a good design etc. isn't easy. It's enjoyable, and fun, don't get me wrong, but it isn't easy. It takes commitment, effort, dedication, patience and time.

Also, we don't always blog about the bad times, which is an argument people can use to call bloggers fake. My blog is somewhere to go to cheer myself up from the bad times, and I wouldn't want to sit here talking about my problems - I want to share with you positive things to cheer both myself, and hopefully some of you up. So yes, I rarely blog about bad times but only because I feel that would just make my blog feel more negative which I don't want it to.

Do you relate to this at all? Do you disagree? What's your opinion on the Truth Behind Blogging - I'd love to hear? xxx

  1. I so agree with all of this Lexie! Blogging is definitively not all glamour and interviews. You have to work up to that. With means lots and lots of commitment. And for what you said in the 5th paragraph is so not just you! It happens to me a lot as well. Sometimes when I have an amzing idea I can just make an awesome post but sometimes I have absolutely nothing at all.

  2. I have literally spent roughly an average of eighteen hours these past three and a couple of months years just to reach the amount of readership I have now. Over these three years, none of my non-blogging friends know the difficulties that came with the job. Even my twelve-year-old self had no idea what she was getting herself into when she clicked that "Create blog" button. There's a lot of growth that people don't understand, and a lot of aspects which we had to learn and master, like socializing, coding, create content, etc.

I do agree that hearing about other people's problems can be boring, however, I feel like if we do point out our struggles (especially, coming from this blogging community filled with so many teenaged girls through all parts of the world), we can all definitely relate, which, for the many of us bloggers, can connect to (especially if your blog is more lifestyle / life and whatnot), and it does help out, to an extent.

Huh, you're one of the last blogs I'll be checking out before I leave! I'm going on vacation for a couple of weeks and won't be back for awhile. ^.^

    1. Thanks for commenting Morning, and you've made some really interesting points. I think clicking that Create Blog was one of the best things I've done, however people don't realise what comes with it.

Also, I understand what you mean about blogging about our problems, and you have made a good response to that which really made me think.

Have fun on holiday, Lexie xo

  3. This is such a wonderful post, I totally agree with everything! Blogging definitely isn't as easy as people think that it would be. I've been blogging for three years, and I still don't have many followers, or tons of views. You have to blog because you love it, not to get famous ♥

  4. This is one of the most true posts I've ever witness be created on blogger! It's NOT all fun and games! If I even go for a couple days without posting I go "Aw crap! I'm gonna lose followers!" So I scrap together an unpostworthy post amnd it's horrible and I'm like "Aww crap!!"

    1. Aww thank you so much Dani. And what you said I totally agree with, however one thing about your comment is about the posting because you're going to lose followers which again is something bloggers (and I totally just don't mean you, I have done it myself) do. We should never blog just because we don't want to lose followers, its about posting because you love it.

      Anyway thanks for commenting^^

  5. To be honest, most of the time I only blog about my bad times, because my blog is more for me than the viewers, which makes this truth negligible. It's just therapeutic in a way, you know? I don't think a blog has to be successful in terms of stats for it to be a success, although yeah having people actually read your blog is a reason you made it in the first place. Our posts don't need to be of quality or anything either. Just write when you want to write. Although, I know my favourite part of blogging is when people comment, and lately I haven't been posting regularly and I've noticed that the comments aren't coming anymore :(

    1. Thanks for stopping by M and what you said is very true. And yes, blogging is therapeutic, I just don't like to write about negative things (personally, I can understand why others like to).

  7. Oh this is great! I had no idea people thought you could be famous in literally a click, that's pretty stupid. You're right, it takes a lot of time. Just like it does with anything that thousands of people will soon find out about, if that makes sense.

    1. Hi Rukiya, thanks for commenting! Well, I don't know whether it is just me, but a lot of my friends and people I know just assume I'm famous because I have a blog and that its super easy to become internet famous!
