The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow

Hola Lexicans! As you may already know, the Waterstones Children's Book Prize is in just 3 days, and I'm lucky enough to be attending the event. So, the next couple of blog posts, are going to be book reviews of a couple of the amazing books on the shortlist. Today, I'm going to be reviewing The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow a *surprise surprise* mystery book, which I absolutely loved.

Sophie is a headstrong young lady who works at Sinclair’s, what some of the Press consider to be the most magical and amazing department store ever. However, when a man was shot after work at Sinclair's and several valuable jewels go missing from the exhibition section of Sinclair's, the finger of blame points to her. With the help of her new friends Lil and Billy, she is determined to find the criminal, however dangerous it may be…

I loved this book; as you probably all know (unless you are a new reader), I love mysteries and this one was particularly action-packed. The description was vivid and the plot was very thrilling and really got your heart pumping in certain places. I would definitely recommend this for 9 - 12 year olds, particularly fans of Anyone But Ivy Pocket by Caleb Krisp, the Murder Most Unladylike series or Dead Man’s Cove by Lauren St John, as they are quite similar books.

Have you read this book, or the ones I listed in the last paragraph? Did you like them? xx I will be back on Wednesday with another book review!
