Hola Lexicans! I just wanted to start off this post by saying THANK YOU to you. Yes, you. I'm sure you are like 'what did I do?' right now so I'll explain. A few days ago, I hit 50,000 all-time page views on my blog (I'm now on 50,764 to be precise). I have been blogging for 2 and a bit years now and 50k page views is honestly WOW! Everyone of you has made a difference (unless you're a new reader, in which case hey, welcome to my blog!) I know that numbers shouldn't make a difference, but I just wanted to say thank you because 50,000 is overwhelmingly amazing!
Anyway, today I am going to be doing a book review of the popular book Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. I hit Twitter, tweeting some of my book lover friends asking for book recommendations for poignant YA books. I got loads of recommendations and have bought quite a few but the first one I read was Finding Audrey.
Finding Audrey is about *surprise* Audrey, a teenage girl with anxiety disorder due to severe bullying at school. She doesn't go to school, wears dark glasses and avoids any contact with people other than Dr. Sarah and her little brother Felix. Until, Linus comes along, determined to find a way to help Audrey and get her back to her past self again.
This book reminded me very much of the YA book Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, in terms of pretty much everything - characters, themes and writing style so if you enjoyed that book, I would definitely recommend Finding Audrey.
Now, many of the reviews I read of this book were negative, saying the anxiety Audrey had was unrealistic and the author didn't do her research right. I disagree to some extent, I don't know many people with anxiety, however the one I do know was actually somewhat similar to Audrey. Whilst I have read books that portrayed anxiety a lot better, it wasn't as bad as many people made out. If you wanted an accurate representation of characters with anxiety I wouldn't recommend this book, however I liked that it was light and funny in places even if it wasn't realistic.
Overall, I personally loved this book! Once again, thank you so much for 50k page views and may this journey forever continue.
